Gladiator Slot Machine

Gladiator Game ReviewIn 2000, Ridley Scott released a movie starring Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix called Gladiator. Gladiator won five Oscars, redefined a genre and took an indelible place in pop culture. It inspired comedy sketches, songs, artwork and even casinos. In the year after Gladiator hit theaters, Gladiator-themed promotions and slot machines were all over Las Vegas and Atlantic City.

That inspiration reached the online gambling industry as well in the form of Playtech’s Gladiator slot machine, which is available at the Paddy Power website. For those that don’t know, Playtech is one of the most successful online gambling platforms, and UK-based Paddy Power is one the biggest and most successful gambling operations online and in Europe.

Paddy Power offers Playtech’s Gladiator slot machine in both free and pay modes, and despite a 2001 launch, this is still one of the most popular slot machines online. Long after the Gladiator-themed slot machines have left the land-based casino, this one lives on. Part of that is the nature of the Internet, but it’s also because this unique game transcends its movie-based theme.

One aspect that distinguishes Gladiator slots is the high bet limit: $6,250. It has 5 reels and 25 winning lines. It allows 10 coins per line, and the coin sizes range from $0.02 to $25. In other words, the users can place $250 (10 x $25) on 25 lines for a total of $6,250 ($250 x 25). There simply aren’t that many slot machines online that allow you to make bets at that level.

The Gladiator slot machine does not have a progressive jackpot, but it does have a high jackpot of $1,250,000. The second- and third-tier jackpots are $250,000 and $125,000. Gladiator also boasts a scatter symbol, which allows for scatter wins. A scatter win pays out independently, so you can win that alone, or you can win it in combination with the jackpot.

The scatter pays out a maximum of 100 coins times the current bet. If you bet the maximum on a spin and hit the scatter, it pays out $625,000 (100 x $6,250). It is possible to hit the high jackpot and the scatter win on the same spin. In that unlikeliest of scenarios, Gladiator pays out $1,875,000, which is an astounding payout rate. Obviously, $6,250 is too much per spin for most, but the payout scales.

Gladiator also has a number of cool features, including a gamble option, a bonus feature and a bonus game. The gamble option is a double or nothing proposition, and the player gets to choose how much they gamble up to $1,200. Once they set the amount, the player selects red or black, and then the machine draws a card at random. If the player chose correctly, the money doubles. If the player chose incorrectly, they lose whatever they bet. Most skill-oriented players call gamble features bad bets, but the fact that it lets you gamble less than all of your winnings makes it a more attractive option in this case for the intuitive player.
